The Greater Baton Rouge Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) installed the following officers for the 2018 – 2019 chapter year: Daniel Slattery (Generative Safety & Human Performance) as President, Andrew Downing (Jacobs) as Vice-President, Jake Valenti (OxyChem) as Treasurer, Lasey Thompson (SafetyPro Resources) as Secretary, Julie Roussel (The DOW Chemical Co.) as Past President, Brandon Smith (GBRIA) as Delegate, Jeremy Miller (Performance Contractors) as Member-at-Large. Strategic planning will take place June – August with activities resuming in September.
The evening began with recognition of member accomplishments. Mr. Lance Roux, CSP (SafetyPro Resources) won chapter’s Safety Professional of the Year Award. Mr. Roux has served all executive board positions of the Greater Baton Rouge Chapter, served as Louisiana Area Director, and now serves as Region IV Secretary. Mr. Roux remains active in the local chapter by serving as Student Section Liaison to both Southeastern Louisiana University and Louisiana State University’s Student Sections, mentoring young professionals in their work in the section and careers. Mr. Roux serves on numerous other committees and initiatives that create positive impact to the field of occupational safety and our area.
Mr. Steve Pereira, CSP (Professional Safety Associates) received the chapter’s Langois – Weigand Award. This award honors a member for his or her long-time service to the chapter. Mr. Pereira is the chapter’s longest serving chapter member and has contributed to its success.
Ms. Lasey Thompson, CSP (SafetyPro Resources) received the President’s Award. Ms. Thompson was appointed as Chapter Secretary at the beginning of the year after committing to serve as Programs Committee Chair. Ms. Thompson continued through the chapter year with both duties, performing each excellently.
Mr. Dustin Kirkland (Vallen) and Mr. Thai Tran (Jacobs), Communications Committee Chair / Golf Tournament Committee member and Membership Committee Chair, respectively, received the Above & Beyond Award. Both exceeded expectations in their roles to support the chapter in its many initiatives.
Mr. Chris Robertson, Technical Environmental Services (TES), accepted the Sponsor of the Year Award on behalf of his company. TES has supported the chapter by sponsoring and speaking on technical subjects at chapter meetings and supporting the chapter golf tournament.
