Position Overview

The EH&S Manager is responsible for developing and managing a comprehensive environmental, health and safety program and driving a high-performance safety and compliance culture across the company. Collaborating closely with the Company’s manufacturing organization, this highly visible and strategic role leads the development of a comprehensive operational environmental, health and safety (EHS) strategy and drives implementation of that strategy across the manufacturing network. Leveraging data, innovative ideas and best practices, the EHS Manager develops programs and measures to ensure compliance, minimize risk and reduce incidents and exposures. This individual has a proven ability to work within a manufacturing organization to set clear goals, achieve alignment, close gaps in performance and deliver results.

Job Responsibilities

EHS Strategy:

  • Develop, communicate, and execute EHS strategic plans that help the company achieve not only its EHS goals but also align with the process improvement opportunities and growth plans. 
  • Develops and implements tactical plans to improve EH&S performance and monitors plan implementation. Identifies risks and areas of non-compliance, and refines plan as needed to improve compliance and performance.
  • Works closely with leadership to develop a data-driven EHS strategy that leverages industry best practices to achieve best-in-class safety performance. 
  • Identifies the top areas of focus from a risk and performance perspective and assists in the development of annual and long-term EH&S goals and plans, including both lagging and leading indicators.
  • Provides visible leadership and strategic focus to Environment, Health, and Safety initiatives, and partners with senior leaders in raising awareness and correction of potential EH&S issues.
  • Leads site and functional EH&S management-control-reporting-system (MCRS) process to ensure appropriate periodic reporting and analysis of EH&S performance and program implementation status.
  • Works with Operations Leadership to develop training tools and programs that improve Operations and front-line knowledge and skills related to safe performance.
  • Monitors new regulations and EH&S standards and develops effective implementation strategies.
  • Participates in capital expense planning and approval process to ensure EH&S risks and regulatory requirements are rigorously evaluated and prioritized.
  • Coordinates investigations of EHS compliance matters and supports due diligence projects, as needed.
  • Ensures that the company has a data management system that effectively captures and facilitates execution and analysis for EHS related data. 
  • Together with the COO, assists in budget planning and overall management of the EHS function. 
  • Prepares and delivers EH&S reports, disclosures, and communications for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Leads and supervises the Environmental Leader and guides Operations associates on EHS matters as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 7 or more years of experience as an environmental, health and safety professional in a manufacturing/ chemical environment  
  • Experience managing an EHS function or team, including developing and executing strategy, driving results, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of environmental, health and safety standards and regulations in multiple jurisdictions 
  • Strong knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) and Industrial Hygiene
  • Experience working in and knowledge of requirements for a Coast Guard Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) facility. 
  • Experience working with regulatory frameworks and influencing change across cultures
  • Proven ability to identify and implement EHS best practices to improve safety and EHS performance
  • Good organizational, communication, and networking skills and ability to influence
  • Self-directed with ability to work in fast paced environment 

Education

  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in engineering, chemistry, environmental science, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, or other technically related field 
  • Professional certifications, such as Certified Safety Professional, preferred

Travel

  • 20% travel for site visits and meetings 

Environmental Technician

Location: Plaquemine   

Rate : $32 per hour – No per diem

Position:

Environmental Technician

Reports to:

Environmental Manager

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate transportation of waste containers and shipments of waste.
  • Attend project kickoff meetings to communicate waste management requirements.
  • Complete waste manifests and manage shipping records.
  • Inspect waste storage areas and chemical warehouses.
  • Audit production unit waste storage logs.
  • Assist with waste characterization sampling including coordination with operations and laboratories.
  • Assist with any spill cleanup activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience of manufacturing or related military experience.
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel

Preferred:

  • Forklift operator qualified or able to receive qualification.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Regularly required to push, pull, bend and perform long periods of standing and walking on cement foundations.
  • Occasionally required to stoop and kneel.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to coordinate the movement of eyes, hands, feet, and fingers to operate tools and equipment.
  • Required to be medically certified for respirator and medically fit for duty.
  • Use of PPE required in specific areas.
