PARK RIDGE, Illinois — The world’s oldest professional safety society transitioned today to a new brand that includes a new name, refreshed logo, redesigned website and rebranded social media channels. The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), with more than 37,000 members worldwide, represents the many diverse disciplines that make up the dynamic occupational safety and health community.

The Greater Baton Rouge Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) installed the following officers for the 2018 – 2019 chapter year: Daniel Slattery (Generative Safety & Human Performance) as President, Andrew Downing (Jacobs) as Vice-President, Jake Valenti (OxyChem) as Treasurer, Lasey Thompson (SafetyPro Resources) as Secretary, Julie Roussel (The DOW Chemical Co.) as Past President, Brandon Smith (GBRIA) as Delegate, Jeremy Miller (Performance Contractors) as Member-at-Large. Strategic planning will take place June – August with activities resuming in September.
Southeastern Professor to Receive ASSE’s Safety Outstanding Educator of Year Award

Greater Baton Rouge Chapter member, Dr. Lu Yuan will be recognized by the American Society of Safety Engineers at Safety 2015 conference in June in Dallas.
Lu Yuan, a certified safety professional, associate professor and coordinator of the university’s occupational, safety, health and environment program, will be honored with the association’s Outstanding Safety Educator Award. The award is named after Dr. William E. Tarrants, a long-time contributor to the advancement of safety and health program accreditation.
Establish a Safety Fund

Donors can establish a named academic scholarship or professional education grant fund through the ASSP Foundation. Scholarships and grants advance the safety profession and provide national recognition for the donor. The Foundation manages the administrative details of this program and works with the donor to provide qualified award recipients each year.
