Environmental Technician

Location: Plaquemine   

Rate : $32 per hour – No per diem

Position:

Environmental Technician

Reports to:

Environmental Manager

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate transportation of waste containers and shipments of waste.
  • Attend project kickoff meetings to communicate waste management requirements.
  • Complete waste manifests and manage shipping records.
  • Inspect waste storage areas and chemical warehouses.
  • Audit production unit waste storage logs.
  • Assist with waste characterization sampling including coordination with operations and laboratories.
  • Assist with any spill cleanup activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience of manufacturing or related military experience.
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel

Preferred:

  • Forklift operator qualified or able to receive qualification.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Regularly required to push, pull, bend and perform long periods of standing and walking on cement foundations.
  • Occasionally required to stoop and kneel.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to coordinate the movement of eyes, hands, feet, and fingers to operate tools and equipment.
  • Required to be medically certified for respirator and medically fit for duty.
  • Use of PPE required in specific areas.

The Greater Baton Rouge Chapter of the American Society of Safety Professionals Announces the 2024/2025 Executive Board Nominees

Pursuant to Chapter Bylaws, Section IV, the following members have been nominated for the Executive Board for the 2024/2025 Chapter Year, July 1-June 30.


President: Emma Bataineh, CSP

Emma Bataineh serves as a Safety Specialist for Georgia Pacific. Bataineh holds a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment from Southeastern Louisiana University. Bataineh is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. Bataineh serves as the Chapter Vice President for the current Chapter year. Bataineh has also served as the GBR Chapter Community Outreach Committee Chair for several years, leading Chapter activities to promote practical, hands-on safety learning to local high school students enrolled in craft training through the JumpStart Program.

Vice President: Brandon Dove, CSP

Brandon Dove serves as a Health & Safety Engineer at Methanex Corporation in Geismar, LA. Dove served in the Louisiana Army National Guard, reaching the rank of Sergeant as an Air Traffic Controller, deploying for one year overseas in Baghdad in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Dove holds a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety, Health, & Environment from Southeastern Louisiana University and is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. Dove serves as the Chapter Treasurer for the current Chapter year. Dove also currently serves on the American Cancer Society’s Ascension Parish Executive Leadership Council as well as the River Parish Community College (RPCC) Foundation Board. In 2023, Dove served on the GBRIA Safety Excellence Awards Committee, who worked to redesign the structure and processes of the long-standing awards program.

Treasurer: Tyler Traweek, MBA, CSP

Tyler Traweek serves as the HSE Director for Conco Services, LLC. Traweek holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology Health Promotion and Wellness from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, a Master of Science in Occupational Safety and Health and a Master of Business of Administration from Columbia Southern University, and a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Construction Management from Louisiana State University. Traweek is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. Traweek serves as the Chapter Secretary for the current Chapter year.

Secretary: Laremy Stilley, CSP

Laremy Stilley serves as the Environmental, Health, and Safety Director at Process Service Specialists, LLC. Stilley holds a Bachelor of Science in General Studies with a concentration in Leadership Development from Louisiana State University and will soon begin his pursuit of a Master’s in Business Administration for Data Analytics at Louisiana State University Shreveport. Stilley is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. Stilley serves as the Chapter Community Outreach Chair for the current year with a focus on promoting the safety profession to students in our area at events such as the “Build Your Future” event hosted by ABC Pelican Chapter. Additionally, Stilley serves as a commissioner with a local youth athletic association encouraging healthy, active lifestyles in the community youth and safe athletic practices.

Past-President: Chris McGlynn, CSP

Chris McGlynn serves as the Director of Safety at Roco Rescue. In addition to his responsibilities at Roco, McGlynn serves as a Special Government Employee (SGE) for the US Department of Labor OSHA. McGlynn holds a Master of Science in Occupational Safety and Health from Columbia Southern University and was recently accepted into West Virginia University’s Statler College of Engineering Ph.D. Program in Occupational Safety and Health. MyGlynn holds multiple certifications including the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals and Paramedic through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Additional ASSP activities include service on ASSP’s Advisory Group and Standard Development Committee Representative for ANSI/ASSP Z117 – Confined Space Standard and ANSI/ASSP Z390 – Hydrogen Sulfide Training Standard.

Advisory Group Member: Thomas Cagle, CSP, CSHM

Thomas Cagle serves as the Vice President of HSSE and Training at Associated Terminals/Turn Services. Cagle holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Louisiana State University. Cagle is a Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM) through the Institute of Hazardous Material Management and is a Certified Safety Professional through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. Additionally, Cagle serves as a speaker for RiverWorks Discovery, educating children and their families about commerce, culture, conservation, and river safety.

Member-at-Large: Thai Tran, CSP

Thai Tran serves as a Regional Safety Specialist for Conco Services, LLC. Tran holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment from Southeastern Louisiana University. Tran is a Certified Safety Professional through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. Tran served as Chapter President for the 2021/2022 Chapter Year.

Elections will take place April 18, 2024, through May 8, 2024, via electronic ballot.
